Admission Criteria for Abu Dhabi International School

  • Admission is open for pre-school to Grade 11.
  • AIS does not accept applications to Grade 12.
  • To graduate from AIS, students must have completed at least Grades 11 and 12 at the school.

Applicants must meet the age requirements for the grade to which they are applying. New applicants must attain a specific age by September 1 of the year for each grade as follows:

  • Pre-school: 3 years
  • Kindergarten: 4 years
  • Prep school: 5 years
  • Grade 1: 6 years

Exceptions cannot be made for students whose age is not within the required range, including those coming from abroad.

  • There will be no discrimination on the basis of nationality, ethnicity, color, or creed.
  • Students with mild learning difficulty or disability are welcome at AIS and shall be granted admission on the basis of the student application, as well as any further assessments and reports required by the Admissions Committee.
  • Students with severe learning difficulty or disability may not be admitted if the school cannot make provisions to meet their needs.
  • Students with non-contagious chronic medical conditions (for example, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma) shall not be denied admission unless the school is unable to provide the required support.
  • Admission to the Students Support Services Department for students with special needs is granted based on the student application and any further assessments required by the Admissions Committee.

During admissions, preference will be given to students in the following order of priority:

  • Children of AIS faculty members
  • Siblings of current AIS students
  • Former AIS students
  • Children of former AIS students
  • All students who meet admission requirements

How to apply and enroll to Abu Dhabi International School

Before you begin the application process...

STEP 1

Fill student application form

  1. Vaccine certificate
  2. Applicant’s latest report card
  3. Copy of applicant’s passport with information page and visa page
  4. Medical certificates if any. If the applicant has any conditions/allergies/disabilities, it must be communicated at this stage.

Schedule the courtesy call

STEP 3

Attend an in-person interview

  1. Recommendation form, if the applicant is transferring from a different school. Please make sure the form is completed, signed, stamped by the principal, and submitted to Abu Dhabi International School in an officially sealed envelope. For applicants entering KG 2 to Grade 2, please download this form. For applicants entering Grade 3 to Grade 11, please download this form.
  2. Two recent passport-sized photos of the applicant. These photos must be full-face view, facing the camera, with a white or off-white background.
  3. Copy of the applicant’s valid Emirates ID card: if already living in UAE, otherwise submit at the time of enrollment.
  4. Copy of the applicant’s birth certificate
  5. Copy of the applicant’s vaccination record: Make sure the student’s name is visible
  6. Copy of sponsoring parent’s passport information page and visa page
  7. Copy of sponsoring parent’s valid Emirates ID card: if already living in UAE, otherwise submit at the time of enrollment.
  8. Copy of water and electricity bill: this is required to obtain the premises ID for those residing in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
  9. Copy of student’s school report cards for the last year and the latest progress reports for the current academic year. This is required of all applicants, including those applying for KG1 and Prep (if they are currently enrolled in preschool or nursery school).
  10. Students with medical conditions must submit a medical report and their case will be reviewed by the school clinic. Students with chronic medical conditions shall not be denied admission unless the school is unable to provide the required support.
  11. For students with special needs, parents must provide the school with any academic, psychological, or medical assessments that are essential to the application process, including Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Academic Program Accommodations, Behavior Modification Plans, Psychological/Educational Evaluations. Not submitting these documents at the time of the application may result in the withdrawal of the student’s application.
  12. AED 500 to be paid in cash to the Accounts Department at the time of the interview.

STEP 4

Enrollment of the student

  1. Original valid Emirates ID Cards of the applicant, father and mother: to be scanned in the Abu Dhabi Educational Council’s School Information System (eSIS).
  2. Copy of the applicant’s UAE Residence Visa: if not submitted, at the time of enrollment.
  3. Copy of the applicant’s valid Emirates ID card: if not submitted, at the time of enrollment.
  4.  Letter of enrollment from the present school for Prep–Grade 11 admissions.
  5.  Applicants accepted at Abu Dhabi International School from outside the UAE must submit all of the above- mentioned documents, together with the  following, by the last week of August in order to complete their enrollment at AIS:
    i. Original end-of-year school report card with an official school stamp and signature
    ii. Original Transfer/Leaving Certificate with an official school stamp and signature
    If the transfer certificate or report card is issued in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or a Western European country, legal attestation is NOT required.
    iv. If the transfer certificate or report card is issued in a GCC country, the original transfer certificate should be attested from the Ministry of Education in the issuing country.
    v. If the transfer certificate or report card is issued in a country other than those mentioned above, the original transfer certificate must be attested from the UAE Embassy in the issuing country. If there is no UAE embassy in the issuing country, the document must be attested by the issuing country’s embassy in the UAE and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the UAE.
